Suspect in Monday Williamsburg Assault Arrested

A man who allegedly slapped an Orthodox Jew in Williamsburg has been arrested, according to the NYPD. Carrington Maddox, 31, is accused of approaching the victim, 27, and slapping him without provocation or an exchange of words.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 3:30pm, on Lynch Street, between Marcy and Harrison Avenues. Maddox was arrested on charges of Aggravated Harassment and Menacing as a Hate Crime, according to the NYPD. Shomrim assisted the NYPD in getting surveillance footage and pictures of the suspect.

The attack came on the heels of two other unprovoked assaults on visibly Jewish people in Williamsburg. On Motzoei Shabbos, a man was chased down Lee Avenue. The suspect in that incident also is seen on video spraying a 66 year old Orthodox Jewish man on Sunday morning with a chemical fire extinguisher, followed by punching the victim in his face.

On Tuesday, a Crown Heights man was assaulted upon leaving his home, bringing the total to four consecutive days of hate crimes against Orthodox Jews,

The NYPD, Hate Crimes Task Force, and Shomrim are continuing to investigate the cases. The NYPD told Hamodia following the Sunday incident that they are going to increase police presence in Williamsburg at shuls and yeshivos.
