Charles Sharp III of Mantua New Jersey called 9-1-1 because he caught two men red-handed breaking into his car– at least one of them had a gun. Sharp confronted the men, tried to scare them off with fireworks, but that didn’t work. Sharp told the dispatcher that the suspect had a gun and so did he. A police officer from Mantua Township hopped out of the car, gave a suspect a command to drop the weapon, and then the officer discharged his weapon killing the man, who turned out to be Sharp, the homeowner and 9-1-1 caller. Things got worse still– as it turns out Sharp had armed himself with a fake gun and had made up the entire 9-11 call.
