Chaos broke out in Nanyuki Town as police clashed with demonstrators protesting the death of 24-year-old Julia Wangui, who died after being detained at Nanyuki Women’s Prison. Wangui was arrested during the July 7 Sabasaba protests and reportedly sustained injuries while in custody. She later died in the hospital. Her death adds to growing concerns over police brutality, coming just weeks after the death of blogger Albert Ojwang while in custody.
