Police Brutality in Ghana

Judith Kumah’s life was forever changed when she was arrested and interrogated by Superintendent Suputor, a police officer who would later cut off part of her ear.

The incident occurred during an investigation into a robbery case, one where she was falsely accused. Despite the trauma she endured, Judith, who was pregnant at the time found solace when her story went viral, sparking public outcry and prompting the Ghana Police Service to assure her of justice.

However, Judith’s hope for accountability has started dwindling. Five (5) months down the line and the officer responsible for Judith’s mutilation has allegedly been promoted at the Tema Regional Police Command, despite assurances of a potential indictment. This development has left seven months pregnant Judith fearing that justice may never be served…
