On Saturday (September 27), Peru’s youth clashed with riot police during protests against President Dina Boluarte, a week after violent demonstrations in Lima left over a dozen injured.
Tear gas was used to disperse protesters. The unrest began on September 20 over pension reforms but is also driven by anger at corruption, economic insecurity, rising crime, and a lack of accountability for deaths since Boluarte took office. Boluarte’s approval rating stands at 2.5%.
