Tyler Canaris was just minding his own business, walking to work in Paulding County, Georgia, when Deputy Michael McMaster stopped him over a suspicious person report. Tyler questioned the detention and didn’t immediately comply fully—leading the deputy to grab him from behind, lift him, and slam him hard to the pavement, causing a fractured skull, broken collarbone, and other serious injuries. Deputy McMaster was later fired. Tyler sued the deputy and county for civil rights violations. (The federal case was dismissed on summary judgment in late 2025 with an appeal filed, but online narratives often claim a $1.5 million win.
