A viral video showing the February arrest of 22-year-old William McNeil Jr. in Jacksonville, where he was struck by a police officer, has sparked public outcry and comparisons to a “21st century Rosa Parks moment.”
The incident occurred during a traffic stop, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stating that McNeil was pulled over for driving without headlights and a seatbelt in inclement weather. However, McNeil’s legal team disputes these claims, arguing that the stop was racially motivated.
“That day I just wanted to know why I was getting pulled over, why I needed to step out of the car. I knew I didn’t do anything wrong… I was really just scared,” McNeil said during a public statement.
