Kenyans have taken to the streets to protest against police brutality after the death of blogger Albert Ojwang under mysterious circumstances while in police custody earlier in June, and the close-range shooting of hawker Boniface Kariuki by police during demonstrations on June 18.
These protests align with the one-year anniversary of the storming of the Kenyan parliament by anti-tax demonstrators, during which numerous activists and protesters were abducted and killed by police.
Kenya has a longstanding issue with police brutality, and President William Ruto has previously pledged to put an end to it.
