Brave Woman Constable Sends 9 Policemen to Death Row | Sathankulam Custodial Death Case
In a rare and landmark verdict, a Madurai court on April 7, 2026, sentenced 9 Tamil Nadu policemen to death for the brutal custodial torture and murder of father-son duo P. Jayaraj and J. Benicks in 2020.
The duo was arrested in Sathankulam police station, Thoothukudi, for allegedly violating COVID lockdown rules. They were beaten so mercilessly that blood flowed uncontrollably. Both died days later due to severe injuries.
While many feared speaking against the police, Head Constable S. Revathi showed extraordinary courage. Standing in court, she declared, “Sir, I will tell you everything.” Her fearless eyewitness testimony exposed the horrific torture despite threats, pressure, and risks to her job and family.
