‘Gen Z’ revolt in Nepal turns deadly

Nepal has been rocked by deadly protests after the government banned several social media platforms. At least 19 people were killed in the so-called Gen Z revolt on September 8, 2025, largely made up of student protesters, who met heavy resistance from authorities. The government later announced the lifting of social media restrictions while the country’s prime minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, announced his resignation soon after.
