A woman tried smuggling an adult female and two children through a Laredo international bridge, according to an arrest affidavit.
Ana Maria Rubio-Silva, 23, was charged with transport, attempt to transport and conspire to transport migrants.
On Sept. 17, Rubio-Silva, a U.S. citizen from Sedalia, Missouri, arrived at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge as a bus passenger. She was traveling along with a woman, a girl and a boy, states the affidavit.
Rubio-Silva presented a Minnesota birth certificate on behalf of the girl and claimed that the girl was her daughter. Meanwhile, the other woman and the boy presented Missouri birth certificates on their behalf, court documents state.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred the four travelers to secondary inspection, where Rubio-Silva admitted that the woman and children were not U.S. citizens. These individuals were identified as migrants from Mexico, the affidavit states.
