Brooklyn judge fined $2,000 for misusing city resources while working for ex-DA Charles Hynes – New York Daily News

A newly-elected Brooklyn judge has been slapped with a $2,000 fine for working on a political campaign while on the clock as a prosecutor, the city’s watchdog agency announced Tuesday.

Anne Swern, who won a Democratic Party-controlled seat on the Kings County Civil Court last month, agreed to cough up the cash to the Conflicts of Interest Board after admitting she used her official district attorney’s office email account and computer to work on ex-Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes’ 2013 reelection bid.

Swern, who served as one of Hynes’ assistant DAs, sent a total of five emails that violated city law.

“These prohibited emails related to Campaign fundraising and contributions; her thoughts regarding a Campaign mailer; and, on two occasions, her assistance with Campaign debate preparation,” the COIB said.

It’s illegal for city employees to use their official positions to work on anything but official city business.

Swern is the 11th former Hynes staffer who has confessed to breaking the law during the former Democratic DA’s unsuccessful reelection campaign.

Swern did not respond to a request for comment.
