“18 Stitches and a Broken Spine”: AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Recalls 1999 Torture During Sholapur Election Campaign |

Amidst the intensifying political atmosphere for the 2026 Maharashtra Local Body Elections, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi addressed a massive public gathering in Sholapur today, January 6, 2026. During his speech, Owaisi took an emotional turn, recounting a harrowing and life-altering incident from 1999.
Owaisi revealed that during a period of intense political struggle and alleged police high-handedness in 1999, he was subjected to severe physical violence while in custody. He detailed the lasting physical toll of that encounter: 18 stitches on his head, four broken fingers, and a permanent injury to his spinal cord. By sharing this “bitter reality,” the Barrister aimed to underscore his long-standing commitment to his cause despite physical suffering, urging the youth of Sholapur to remain resilient in the face of political challenges.
