This is the incredible moment four heroic Iowa police officers catch three young children dropped to safety from a third story window of a burning building by their desperate mother.

The senior cops have been praised for their quick thinking and bravery after body camera footage of the moment they arrived on the scene was released.

In footage taken from the scene the four men, named as Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley, and Casey Sanders, are seen helping the Des Moines firefighters with a blaze at an apartment block.

Police say the officers ‘quickly positioned themselves outside the building’ after the emergency services were called in the early hours of Tuesday morning.  ADVERTISING

One officer is heard shouting to the mother, later identified as O’Sheana Harrison, as each child – all aged three or under – is thrown one by one to safety on the ground below.

He says: ‘Ma’am, get all your kids by the window. Send them down, I got them. Drop them.’ Cop catches three kids dropped from third floor of burning building

Sirens can be heard in the background of the police bodycam footage as the cops carry out their daring rescue.

The first child drops into an officer’s arms as he tells O’Sheana to ‘keep going’. The youngster can be heard crying and is comforted by the law enforcement official.

They then continue the rescue, calling out ‘next one’ before all three children, named as three-month-old Jayciere, 18-month-old Ariyah and three-year-old Breeaylah, are saved.

Huge flames can be seen billowing from one of the windows of the complex as the officers shout for a ladder to help rescue O’Sheana.

They add: ‘We got somebody trapped, we got the kids. Hold on, it’s ok. We got the babies, just stay calm. You’re ok.’

The officers can then be heard comforting the visibly distressed kids while rescue efforts are made to free their mom, telling them: ‘Your mommy is going to get out, ok. I got you, baby.’

No one was injured in the incident and all residents were evacuated safely.

O’Sheana later praised the officers for their help in saving the lives of her children.

She told WhoTV: ‘When I opened the door it was just like a wall of thick smoke.

‘He was like, “you got to trust me,” and I don’t trust anybody with my kids, but at that point in time, all I thought was I had to get them out.

‘I can’t say thank you enough. I owe them the world because they saved my world.’

In a statement on Facebook Des Moines police wrote: ‘Early this morning, DMPD officers responded to assist DMFD with a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of MLK Parkway. Officers arrived to find that heavy smoke was preventing their access to the 3rd floor.

‘Senior Police Officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley, and Casey Sanders quickly positioned themselves outside the building, and caught children that were dropped to them from a 3rd floor window. All are well.

‘Please join us in thanking these officers, and those who serve with them, for leaving their homes every day to help make Des Moines the safe and secure city that it is!’

Lt. Rick Thomas of the Des Moines Fire Department said the cause of the fire is now being investigated.

California man who spent 39 years in prison gets $21 million for wrongful conviction

(Reuters) – A California man who was wrongfully convicted for killing an ex-girlfriend and her son four decades ago has reached a $21 million settlement with the city of Simi Valley, officials said.

Craig Coley, 71, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 1978 murder of his former partner, Rhonda Wicht, and her 4-year-old son, Donald, at their apartment.

He had always maintained his innocence, and was pardoned in 2017 by California’s then-governor, Jerry Brown, based on exculpatory DNA evidence found by investigators.

“While no amount of money can make up for what happened to Mr. Coley, settling this case is the right thing to do for Mr. Coley and our community,” Simi Valley City Manager Eric Levitt said on Saturday in a statement.

The 39 years Coley spent behind bars was the longest prison term ever overturned in California, the statement said.

Since his release, Coley has spoken to law enforcement officials about evidence collection, and has met with parents of prisoners who maintain their innocence, according to Mike Bender, a close friend and former police detective in Simi Valley, a community just outside Los Angeles.

Bender had pushed for Coley’s release for nearly three decades after he became troubled by aspects of the case.FILE PHOTO: Inmate Craig Coley, wrongly convicted of the 1978 double-murder of a woman and her child, and released from prison on the basis of DNA evidence was pardoned by California Governor Jerry Brown, in Simi Valley, California, U.S., is shown in this handout photo provided November 23, 2017. “Craig’s message is always don’t give up,” Bender told Reuters by telephone on Sunday.

More than 350 U.S. inmates have been exonerated by DNA testing since 1989, according to New York-based the Innocence Project, which helps people who were wrongfully convicted. On average, convicts who were freed had served 14 years in prison when exonerated.

California authorities awarded Coley $1.95 million last year — $140 for each day he spent in prison. At the time, it was the largest payout for a wrongful conviction by the state’s Victim Compensation Board.

That money allowed Coley to buy a home. With the new settlement money, he will also be able visit places on his bucket list and continue to help the wrongfully convicted, Bender said.

“He’s looking forward to being able to live his life,” Bender said, “No one would want to trade places with him.”

Police Officer Hailed As Hero After Taking Time To Play With Little Girls Who ‘Were Afraid Of Cops’

WRITTEN BY MARK BAKER (1 DAY AGO)

Corporal C.B. Fleming is a police officer from South Hill, Virginia who earned the nickname “Batman” from the children in his neighborhood after he spent an afternoon helping children feel safe after a gas leak.

Fleming was one of the officers who was called to the home of Iesha Roper-Boswell earlier this month after the gas leak. As Fleming spoke to the 28 year-old mother, she told him that her daughter, niece, and other children in the neighborhood were afraid of police officers. Iesha was then stunned minutes later when she saw Fleming laying in the grass playing with the children!

As soon as she saw what he was doing, Iesha took out her phone to record the moment. The footage has quickly gone viral, being viewed thousands of times!

MORE FROM UPLIFTING TODAY

Fleming, who has been a police officer for the past fifteen years, is a father of four biological children as well as two adopted kids. He explained that he has always tried to make members of his community feel comfortable.

“It’s something I’ve always tried to do,” Fleming said of his moment with the children. “When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone’s day then that’s all that mattered.”

Iesha said that he succeeded in making the kids feel more comfortable around cops.

“He’s awesome. That’s the only word you can really use to describe C.B.,” she said. “It’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children. For him to make my child feel like she’s safe, she doesn’t even have to call 911, she just has to call C.B. if she’s in trouble. I’m glad he made this part of his job. He’s changed my daughter and niece’s lives.”
